Cancelling Under SCRA

Planet Fitness allows military members to cancel their membership without penalty when receiving PCS orders, deployment orders, or entering active duty. Under SCRA, they cannot charge early cancellation fees.

How to Cancel

  1. Visit your home club
Planet Fitness typically requires in-person cancellation at your home club location. Bring your military orders.
  2. Or send certified mail
If you can't visit in person (already PCS'd), send a certified letter to your home club with a copy of your orders.
  3. Request written confirmation
Get written confirmation that your membership has been cancelled.
  4. Check for final charges
Monitor your bank account to ensure no further charges occur.

Pro Tip

Planet Fitness franchises are individually owned. Some may be more helpful than others. If you encounter resistance, mention SCRA by name and request a manager. The federal law applies regardless of franchise policies.

Required Documents

Alternative: Membership Transfer

Instead of cancelling, you can transfer your membership to a Planet Fitness near your new duty station. This might be easier if you want to continue working out. Ask your home club about the transfer process.

Black Card Members

If you have a Black Card membership, you can use any Planet Fitness location. You might consider keeping the membership if you're PCSing within the US and there's a location near your new base. Cancel only if deploying or PCSing overseas.
